May 2019 Member of the Month: Caitlin McLaughlin

Congratulations to our May 2019 Member of the Month, Caitlin McLaughlin. Caitlin has been a member at Commonwealth for over a year. She has been incredibly consistent in her attendance and shows up early. She is a blast to have in class, has a great sense of humor and is a joy to coach. Whether Caitlin is working on running or strength, she is receptive to feedback and focuses on implementing coaches' cues. She is cheerful and encouraging in class and embraces the spirit of CrossFit. We are so grateful she is part of our community!

Do you have any nicknames?

Caitlin is actually my nickname and my family calls me Lil' Tait

Where are you from? I currently live in Stoneham but move every few years, bit of a nomad. How long have you been doing CrossFit? Just a year.

What brought you to CWCF?  I was looking for a gym with a proper on-ramp and CWCF was the only one near me that offered one.  I figured if I was going to start CrossFit I wanted to start it right.

What classes do you usually attend? 4:30 during the week and some Saturdays/Sundays.

What do you love about CWCF? Everything...the workouts, the people, the dogs that come in.  The coaches, for sure, I still feel like I have no idea what I am doing half the time so I am glad they are so patient and encouraging. What do you do outside of CrossFit?  I currently work at a semiconductor tech company. During my free time I am typically in the mountains skiing/hiking/mountain biking (newbie) or at a concert.  Love going to shows in the Summer. What is something about you we might not know?  I used do boxing/kickboxing at a small dojo with all guys training for MMA. Who is your superhero? Jimmy Chin, most know him for the movie he directed "Free Solo", he is an amazing videographer and athlete.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Back squats.

What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far? Double Unders, I think they lasted for a good week and then were gone hahaha!

What is one short-term goal, one long-term goal, and what have you been doing to work on them? Short-term, handstands.  I blame it on genetics, no one in my family can even do a cartwheel.  I practice at home, handstands...not cartwheels. Long-term, cleans and snatches.  I literally watch videos of people doing them in my free time, over and over haha

What motivates or inspires you?

The other women at the gym,  seeing how much they can lift is super inspiring.  I catch myself thinking....what the...she just lifted that?!? So awesome! What is your best tip for new members? Don't compare yourself or get intimidated by what others can do, you are there for you and that is all that matters.
